Ferrer fits ‘Candidate’ role

Thesp in for Par's Frankenheimer remake

HOLLYWOOD — Miguel Ferrer has been added to the cast of Paramount’s remake of “The Manchurian Candidate” starring Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep and Liev Schreiber.

Ferrer will portray an army major who challenges Washington, one of the hero soldiers who return from war unable to remember what truly happened to them.

Jonathan Demme is directing the remake of John Frankenheimer’s classic thriller for Paramount. Lensing began last month on the redo, produced by Scott Rudin and Tina Sinatra from a script by Daniel Pyne.

Ferrer recently completed the John Sayles written and directed indie drama “Silver City” opposite Darryl Hannah, Chris Cooper, Richard Dreyfuss and Maria Bello. He continues his series regular role on NBC’s “Crossing Jordan,” which is skedded to return midseason.
