Matthew Gross’ Gross Entertainment has made a first-look deal with John Davis’ 20th Century Fox-based Davis Entertainment.
Gross is the former president of Kopelson Entertainment and Kopelson Telemedia. He recently made an exclusive pod deal at Touchstone Television.
Gross has also hired Ben Haber as a production exec. Haber, who previously worked at Paramount Pictures, holds a masters in motion picture producing from USC’s Peter Stark Program.
“We want to be known as a writer’s company: good stories, compelling characters and universal themes,” Gross said. “If we develop good scripts, then the directors and actors will follow.”
Davis is in various stages of production on “First Daughter” starring Katie Holmes, “I, Robot” starring Will Smith, “Garfield,” “Flight of the Phoenix” and “Alien vs. Predator.”
Gross most recently produced “Joe Somebody” starring Tim Allen for Fox 2000 and New Regency.
On the television side, Gross has set up a number of projects at ABC. Dramas include “The Middleman” written by Chris McQuarrie, “Cats & Dogs” by John Scott Shepherd, “Youth Crime Unit” by Tag Mendillo & Ric Waugh, and “Summer Camp” by Scott Lew, as well as the half-hour “State of the Unions” by Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman (Daily Variety, Nov. 4).
