'Hours' to be screened with helmer Q&A

The Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival has tapped “The Hours” helmer Stephen Daldry as international filmmaker of the year. Kudos will be presented at the org’s Saturday ceremony at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

“The Hours” received seven Golden Globe nominations and a best picture win from the National Board of Review. A screening of the pic, followed by a Q&A with Daldry, is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Palm Springs Desert Museum’s Annenberg Theater.

Daldry’s first feature, “Billy Elliot,” was nominated for three Academy Awards, including director. It also received 12 BAFTA nominations, winning the Alexander Korda Award for best British film.

Past recipients of the international filmmaker award include John Schlesinger, Michael Apted, Lasse Hallstrom and Roberto Benigni.
