Theatrical manager takes G.M. slot in Italian post

Paulo Simoes has been promoted to general manager for Columbia TriStar Films in Rome. He will report to Mark Zucker, senior exec VP of Columbia TriStar Film Distributors Intl.

For the past two years, Simoes has been theatrical manager for CTF in Italy, where he was involved in the record-breaking opening of “Spider-Man” followed by strong results in the fall with “Men in Black II” and “XXX.”

He came to the Italian office in 2001 after spending a year as deputy general manager for CTF in Spain, and four years as general manager for CTF, Puerto Rico.

Fabrizio Ferrucci, the former general manager, continues as director of Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, concentrating on the growth in Italy’s home entertainment market, particularly DVD sales.

“Paulo has excellent leadership skills, tremendous energy and the experience of our biggest year ever to drive us toward an even greater level of success,” Zucker said.
