Exec contributed to blockbuster year of 2002
BERLIN — Martin Bachmann has been named managing director of German-based Columbia TriStar Film Distributors Intl., replacing Juergen Schau, who will remain head of Sony Pictures Releasing’s German production shingle Global Entertainment Prods. in Potsdam.
“Having worked closely with Martin during the past three years, I am confident there is no one more capable of heading up our efforts in our biggest theatrical market outside of North America,” said Jeff Blake, SPE vice chairman and prexy of worldwide marketing and distribution, Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. “With Juergen continuing his management of Global Entertainment Prods., we have the best possible team in Germany.”
Bachmann has been with CTFDI since 1989 when he began as a management trainee in Germany, becoming marketing director four years later. In 2000 he was promoted to senior VP, intl. marketing and relocated to Culver City, Ca.
“There he was part of the team responsible for Columbia Pictures’ best year ever, 2002, which boasted blockbuster releases ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Men in Black II,’ ‘XXX’ and ‘Panic Room,’ ” company said in statement.
Schau has headed Columbia TriStar since 1989.
