Exec wil continue to head film prod'n

BERLIN — German film fund and production outfit Cinerenta has upped chief operating officer Marco Mehlitz to co-CEO and managing director.

Mehlitz will continue to head film production, including project development, but has gained more responsibilities at the firm.

Cinerenta is mulling the launch of an international sales arm this year to handle world sales for its productions, Mehlitz said.

Company raised e39 million ($42 million) last year and financed Pierce Brosnan starrer “Evelyn”; James Foley’s “Confidence”; “The Human Stain,” with Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman; and Bill Paxton’s “Frailty.”

Fund is planning to produce up to six films this year, including “Eye of the Raven,” a psychological thriller inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Company is also partnering with Studio Babelsberg to attract projects to the Berlin region.
