Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz will star in “Gothika” for Warner Bros. Pictures and Joel Silver’s Dark Castle banner.
Berry will portray a criminal psychologist who awakens to find herself a patient in the institution that employs her, with no memory off a murder she’s accused of committing. As she tries to regain her memory, she becomes the pawn of a vengeful spirit. Cruz will portray a fellow mental patient.
Sebastian Gutierrez penned the script; no director is attached.
Silver and Robert Zemeckis will produce. Silver Pictures execs Steve Richards and Susan Levin are overseeing the project on behalf of Dark Castle.
Gutierrez previously wrote and directed “Judas Kiss” and Warners’ “The Big Bounce.”
Dark Castle’s most recent production was “Ghost Ship.”
Halle Berry will next be seen in “X-Men 2.” Cruz is part of the ensemble cast in “Masked and Anonymous,” which will bow at next week’s Sundance Film Festival.
