Belgian ticket sales up 10% in August

After a dismal July, Belgian auds began returning to cinemas in August, according to international cinema chain Kinepolis.

Ticket sales were up 10% in August compared to July, despite hot summer weather. Nevertheless, auds were still down by 7% compared to Aug. 2002.

Kinepolis had close to 2.2 million visitors in August across all its plexes in France, Poland, Spain and Switzerland.

Kinepolis CEO Florent Gijbels confirmed that the company no longer plans to invest in eastern Europe and will ditch its Polish plex. It will expand in Belgium, however.
