BAM puts 15th anni of ‘Durham’ in lineup

Shelton, Robbins, Sarandon to attend

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Academy of Music has stepped up to the plate to host the 15th anniversary screening of baseball film “Bull Durham” on Wednesday.

Move comes after the Baseball Hall of Fame “dis-invited” stars Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins from a previously planned screening of the film.

Hall of Fame president Dale Petroskey recently canceled the 15th anniversary celebratory screening of the film, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, citing the couple’s antiwar stance and his belief that “public criticism of President Bush helps undermine the U.S. position, which ultimately could put our troops in even more danger.”

The BAM screening Wednesday will feature director Ron Shelton, along with actors Robbins, Sarandon and Robert Wuhl.

“We appreciate Brooklyn opening its doors to ‘Bull Durham,’ ” Robbins said in a statement. “From Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges and Sandy Koufax, Brooklyn’s glorious baseball heritage makes it a fitting place for the ‘Bull Durham’ celebration.”
