‘Bailey’ romps north of border

“Bailey,” a C$10 million ($7.4 million) Canada-U.K. co-production about a talking dog, has begun lensing in the Toronto area.

Pic’s namesake is a chatty golden retriever who, along with his animal behaviorist friend (Dean Cain), works to keep their inherited billions out of the hands of a scheming lawyer (Tim Curry) and his wife (Jennifer Tilly). Pic co-stars Laurie Holden and features Jon Lovitz as the voice of Bailey.

Producer David Devine (“Beethoven Lives Upstairs,”) makes his feature directorial debut. Co-producers are Richard Mozer, and Jason Piette and Michael Cowan of Brighton-based the Spice Factory.

Pic is skedded to lense in Toronto, Hamilton and Oshawa until Oct. 20.
