Nicholson, Day-Lewis tie for actors kudos

See winnersHOLLYWOOD — “Chicago” took top honors at the Broadcast Film Critics Assn.’s eighth annual Critics’ Choice Awards gala Friday at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Golden-Globe-winning musical bagged nods for best picture, supporting actress (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and acting ensemble.

Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day-Lewis tied for actor kudos for their perfs in “About Schmidt” and “Gangs of New York,” respectively. “Adaptation” garnered nods for supporting actor (Chris Cooper) and writer (Charlie Kaufman). And Don Cheadle presented the Prudential Financial Freedom Award to Denzel Washington and Antwone Fisher.

Thesp Jason Alexander hosted the two-hour telecast, which aired on E! Entertainment Television.

The BFCA is the largest film critics org in the U.S. and Canada, representing 187 television, radio and online critics. Eligible films were released in the 2002 calendar year and selected by written ballots.
