Hany Abu-Assad’s “Rana’s Wedding” and Moroccan Aoud Rih’s desert road movie “The Wind Horse” both drew the Haifa Film Festival’s Golden Anchor Award Saturday.
Starring Haifa-born actress Clara Khoury, “Rana’s Wedding” follows a Palestinian woman’s efforts to get through the labyrinth of Israeli check-points between East Jerusalem and Ramallah to find her fiance.
Austrian actor Klaus-Maria Brandauer presided over the international jury. Focusing on films from the Mediterranean basin, the Golden Anchor Award is donated by global Francocaster TV5 for the promotion of the winners in Europe.
In the Israeli film section, Isaac Zepel Yeshurun’s “She’s Not 17,” a family drama set against the backdrop of a heavily indebted kibbutz, drew the top prize.
