UGC Films has picked up U.K. rights to the upcoming Terence Davies movie “Sunset Song.”
Producers Bob Last and Ginnie Atkinson are also in final negotiations with financier Visionview and newly formed sales outfit Element X to complete the funding of the project.
Based on Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s 1932 novel, it’s the story of a young woman in a remote Scottish rural community, torn between her love of the land and the harshness of the farming life.
Shooting starts in late summer.
“We are delighted to be working with Terence on this powerful and passionate love story,” says UGC Films U.K.’s managing director Louisa Dent. “The scope of the film will allow us to build on the substantial audience he generated with ‘The House of Mirth.’ This will be Terence Davies’ ‘Gone With the Wind.’ “
