Argentine thesp Leonardo Sbaraglia and Spanish actors Unax Ugalde and Silvia Abascal have boarded “Oxigeno” (Oxygen) a Euro6.6 million ($7.3 million) U-boat drama directed by Alvaro Fernandez Armero (“El arte de morir”), and produced by Juan Gordon for Morena Films.
The three actors will be joined by the already-set Jordi Molla,Valerio Mastandrea and Elio Germano .
Currently in pre-production, and co-produced by Italy’s Mikado and the U.K.’s Tubedale, “Oxygen” is one of several projects that Madrid-based prodco Morena is moving at this year’s Cannes. Other titles:
- “Gull,” written by Paul Laverty (longtime Ken Loach scribe) and to be directed by U.K. documaker Clive Gordon. The $6.3 million thriller is about a young stowaway discovering a murder plot on a cargo ship. Pic is co-produced by the U.K.’s Slate Films.
- The $5 million action drama “Flop,” from Spanish helmer Miguel Marti, about a futuristic society that bans late-night partying;
- The $4.4 million “Carne de neon” from Maria Ripoll (“Tortilla Soup”), which Gordon describes as a “hip, Latino lumpen ‘Snatch.’ “;
- The $5.5 million boxing biopic “Urtain,” about a Spanish heavyweight champ of Europe, with Mariano Barroso (“In the Time of the Butterflies”) attached to direct.
