PARIS — Theatrical admissions fell 9% to 48 million euros ($283 million) in the first quarter of 2003, the French Exhibitors National Federation (FNDF) said Friday.
February was the worst hit month, due to the absence of an audience puller to compare with last year’s “Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra.” The Alain Chabat-helmed pic notched up more than $83 million in its native France.
So far this year, “Taxi 3” is the only pic to have racked up more than $30 million at the box office. The second biggest success was “Catch Me if You Can,” grossing $20 million.
Gallic admissions saw an uptick in March thanks to the FNDF’s “Printemps du Cinema” three-day cheap rate promotion.
