Karen Sortito has joined Spyglass Entertainment in the new post of executive VP of worldwide marketing.
Sortito will report directly to Spyglass co-chairmen Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum and will oversee all aspects of marketing for the company’s film and TV divisions.
“Karen is a well-rounded executive who brings years of experience in the world of marketing and branding,” Barber and Birnbaum said in a statement. “She also has a proven track record in securing corporate sponsorships for features and TV programming, which allows Spyglass to maximize the potential of our content.”
Sortito previously worked with Birnbaum at Fox and with Barber at Morgan Creek.
She most recently was an entertainment consultant specializing in promoting high-profile films for Hollywood studios and production companies.
Her clients included Sony Pictures Entertainment, Revolution Studios and Imax. She was previously chief marketing officer of TheMan.com, a San Francisco-based e-commerce and editorial resource company. From 1994-98 she worked at MGM, most recently as exec VP of worldwide promotions for the studio.
She also held VP promotions posts at 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures.
Spyglass recently announced an exclusive, first-look production deal with DreamWorks.
Spyglass’ upcoming release slate includes “Seabiscuit,” starring Tobey Maguire and Jeff Bridges, for helmer Gary Ross, due out July 5 release through Universal, and the Universal/Spyglass comedy “Bruce Almighty,” starring Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman for director Tom Shadyac, to be released May 23.
