Indie production and distribution company Quantum Entertainment has inked a deal with investment shingle Moviebank to raise $10 million-$12 million in completion financing for pix it produces over the next three years.
Under the deal, Quantum has teamed with Tony Shawkat’s Basra Entertainment to produce the gothic thriller “Vlad,” starring Billy Zane, Brad Dourif, Nicholas Irons and Francesco Quinn. Pic, written and to be directed by Michael Sellers, is being produced by Shawkat.
Quantum is casting “Spirit of Paradise,” penned and to be directed by Sellers and produced by John Remark and Shawkat. Pic is the story of the bonds of spiritual love between a young girl and a dolphin when an island paradise is ravaged by a Force 5 hurricane.
“Vlad” is loosely based on the Romanian legend of medieval ruler Vlad Drakul, who inspired Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” Pic follows four American grad students studying in Romania as they begin a journey of mythic and ancient discovery of the historic character.
The agreement with Moviebank “allows Quantum to produce a greater quantity of commercial films in the $5-8 million range to meet the demands of our buyers,” says Sellers.
Adds Moviebank’s Nick Mandracken: “This is a unique and secure opportunity for private investors to participate in a managed portfolio of films that follows conservative film investment policies developed by such major banks as Imperial Bank and Bank of America.”
