Prod’n techmeister upped to U exec VP

Swallow oversaw 'Grinch,' 'Mummy,' 'Furious'

Universal Pictures has upped John Swallow to exec VP of production technology.

Swallow had been senior veep since 1998, overseeing production tech on feature films including “The Grinch,” “The Mummy,” “The Fast and the Furious” and “A Beautiful Mind.”

He continues to report to production prexies Mary Parent and Scott Stuber.

Stuber and Parent said in a statement: “Over the years, John has proven to be an increasingly valuable and valued member of our team, just as technology has proven to be as important to the production of seemingly low-tech movies as ‘A Beautiful Mind’ and ‘Seabiscuit’ as it is to effects-driven films like ‘The Hulk’ and ‘2 Fast 2 Furious.’ ”

Before joining U’s production shop in 1996, Swallow worked two years as the effects supervisor on “Dragonheart.” Prior to that, he had been executive producer at Pacific Data Images, which handled effects works for such pics as “Heart and Souls” and “Carlito’s Way.”
