Annie Potts is set to topline telepic “Defending Our Kids: The Julie Posey Story” for Lifetime, and she’s in final negotiations to co-star in New Line’s “Heart of Summer.”

The Lifetime project reunites Potts with the cabler; she starred from 1998-2002 on its staple series “Any Day Now.”

Joanna Kerns will helm “Defending,” which recounts the true story of Julie Posey, a stay-at-home wife and mother who, after her teenage daughter was approached by a pedophile in a chat room online, began a crusade to help the police catch sexual predators who prey on children.

The made-for marks Kerns’ first foray into directing telefilms. The multihyphenate has directed segs of “Boston Public,” Judging Amy,” “Felicity” and “Ally McBeal,” among others.

Pic will be produced by von Zerneck Sertner Films. Frank von Zerneck, Robert M. Sertner and Ira Pincus serve as executive producers. Teleplay was penned by Eric Tuchman.

As for “Heart of Summer,” Potts joins Evan Rachel Wood and Jonathan Jackson in the drama, to be directed by James Hayman, Potts’ husband.

Pic — which follows a small-town girl to New York, where she spends the summer at a performing arts school — is produced by Sara Risher through her New Line-based ChickFlicks banner.

“Heart” was penned by first-time writer Sam Schreiber from an idea by Mitch Rotter, the studio’s VP of soundtracks and music development.
