Kenneth Williams has been upped to prexy and CEO of John Malone’s post-production conglom Ascent Media Group.
In addition to the prexy stripes, Williams assumes the CEO rank from Bill Fitzgerald, who is reducing his duties at the company. He will continue to serve as Ascent’s chairman, as well as senior veep of parent Liberty Media.
Promotion, which will give Williams additional legal, finance, human resources and other administrational responsibilities, comes roughly a year after he joined Ascent as its chief operating officer.
The Santa Monica-based company serves as a one-stop shop of post-production services for media and entertainment businesses in the U.S., Europe and Asia through its three creative, media management and network services divisions.
Williams’ previous chief operating officer post is expected to remain vacant, with the duties taken over by the heads of the company’s service divisions.
“This appointment comes in recognition of the excellent job Ken has done in building a senior management team, developing and executing our strategic initiatives and developing deeper and more productive relationships with our clients and partners,” Fitzgerald said. “Ken has quickly earned tremendous respect throughout our organization as well as among our many clients.”
Before joining Ascent, Williams was prexy of Technicolor Digital Cinema, a joint venture of Technicolor and Qualcomm. He also held a senior exec post at Stan Lee Media.
Williams also spent 18 years in studio operations at Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
