Panahi hails Ebadi

Iranian helmer Jafar Panahi has dedicated his Chicago film fest Gold Hugo kudos for “Crimson Gold” to Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace Prize honoree, in an open letter published in his homeland’s newspapers.

Winner of the Un Certain Regard Jury Award at Cannes and featured at the New York fest, “Crimson Gold” was written by Abbas Kiarostami. Pic concerns a pizza deliveryman disturbed by the gulf between himself and the wealthy Tehran residents he serves.

Pic will be released in the U.S. by Wellspring in February.
