With “Dumb and Dumberer” inching toward a $25 million domestic gross since its opening weekend on June 13, New Line Cinema is developing “Smart and Smarter” (also known as “Think Tank”).
Company has brought on comedy scribe Mike Samonek to do a rewrite. Laffer concerns a pair of socially backward, Mensa-card-carrying geniuses who venture out of the splendid isolation of the think tank in which they’ve spent most of their adult lives to attempt to derail the wedding of a childhood girlfriend one of them still loves.
“Smarter” is being overseen by New Line production execs Kent Alterman and Keith Goldberg.
The UTA-repped Samonek is also busily rewriting “The Translator” for Intermedia, with Intermedia production prexy Basil Iwanyk and exec Tobin Armbrust overseeing development.
“Translator” spec was originally penned by Chris Henchy and Tom Lassally and has Dylan Sellers (“Agent Cody Banks”) and Lassally (“Stay”) attached to produce via their newly reflagged Kustom Entertainment shingle.
