No cash changes hands in the deal
NEW YORK — NBC Sports is hoping to administer a shot of adrenaline to its low-rated Arena Football League games by scheduling the network-TV premiere of the 2½-minute “Matrix: Reloaded” trailer during the second half of Sunday’s contests.
Both NBC and Warner Bros., the distributor of “Matrix: Reloaded,” plan to launch a promotional campaign to make people aware of the trailer’s debut. NBC will run promos all week, even in primetime, and Warner Bros. will blanket its Web sites with the news.
No cash changes hands in the deal. Warner Bros. harvests free promotion for the movie, and NBC gets its hands on one of the most anticipated movie previews of the decade — particularly among young males, who may be induced to keep watching one of the four regional football games after they’ve seen the trailer.
The trailer also will run simultaneously in all of the venues where AFL teams are playing on Sunday.
Pic itself hits multiplexes on May 15.
