MGM Pictures has picked up the spec “Street” from tyro screenwriter Matt O’Neil in a deal valued at low six figures against low six figures.
O’Neil, an editor of the basketball lifestyle and culture mag Dime Magazine, wrote “Street” from his knowledge about the rambunctious and talented street basketball players whose skills rival those of NBA stars. In the spec, an NBA coach is forced to rebuild his franchise with playground and street basketball players after his players become too greedy to accept the pay raises he’s offering.
Project is being overseen by MGM execs Eric Paquette and Toby Jaffe. Pic will be exec produced by O’Neil’s managers at Benderspink, and produced by former MGM prexy of production Alex Gartner.
