Producer John Lyons is joining Focus Features as president of production, replacing Glenn Williamson, who will transition into a producing pact with Focus this fall.
Based in Focus’ New York offices, Lyons will report directly to Focus co-presidents David Linde and James Schamus. He will begin this month in a consultant capacity.
Lyons’ most recent producing credit is “Pieces of April,” written and directed by Peter Hedges. Pic had its world preem at the Sundance Film Festival and opens theatrically in October through United Artists.
Lyons also produced “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Austin Powers in Goldmember.” Other producing credits include “Hard Eight” and “Boogie Nights.”
“John has been that rare producer who has successfully shuttled between big and small films, and between stage and screen, in the process establishing excellent relationships with creative people — which is precisely what motivates us,” Linde and Schamus said.
Before becoming a producer Lyons was a casting director for many of the Coen Brothers movies and other pics including “Henry & June,” “Lorenzo’s Oil” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”
Earlier in his career he was the casting director for Off Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons and Manhattan Theater Club.
