Inside Move: ‘Exorcist’s’ head turns to Harlin

Helmer replaces Schrader for reshoots

Morgan Creek Prods. has tapped Renny Harlin for six weeks of reshoots on “Exorcist: The Beginning.”

The shingle had no comment, but sources said Harlin is due to begin work in mid-November. He replaces Paul Schrader, who ankled last month as director of the prequel to the 1973 Oscar-nominated film due to creative differences.

Schrader’s name will remain on the pic as director. The film is scheduled for release through Warner Bros. in 2004.

“Exorcist: The Beginning” traces the story of Father Merrin back to his first encounter with the devil in Africa and stars Stellan Skarsgard, Gabriel Mann, Clara Bellar and recording artist Billy Crawford. Pic was penned by William Wisher and Caleb Carr, produced by Morgan Creek’s James Robinson and exec produced by Guy McElwaine.
