Mazin makes deal to pen 'Opus,' 'Scary Movie 4'

Dimension Films will pay “Scary Movie 3” scribe Craig Mazin seven figures in a one-year reup of his first-look deal.

Under the deal Mazin will adapt “Opus” from Berkeley Breathed’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comicstrip “Bloom County” and pen “Scary Movie 4.”

Mazin also adapted “Harvey,” a new screen version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play that was the basis for the 1950 Jimmy Stewart film. Mazin also wrote Dimension’s “Senseless.”

“Craig was an integral part of the success of ‘Scary Movie 3,’ ” said Dimension co-chair Bob Weinstein. “He did a wonderful job updating ‘Harvey’ for us.”

“Scary Movie 3,” which Mazin wrote with Pat Proft, has earned more than $77 million since its Oct. 24 release.

Mazin is repped by UTA and managed by Brillstein-Grey.
