Spanish producer Andres Vicente Gomez, CEO of Lolafilms, was elected prexy of worldwide producers group FIAPF (Intl. Film Federation of Film Producers Associations) at the org’s general assembly, which took place Monday at Cannes.
He replaces Italian producer Aurelio de Laurentiis, who held the post for the last 10 years.
Indian producer P.V. Gangadharan has been appointed FIAPF’s first veep.
Gomez’s priority is to focus on the impact of broadband TV and Internet on the film industry’s value chain.
“FIAPF is the only producers’ organization with a worldwide reach,” Gomez says. “I look forward to working with all of our members on defending producers’ rights, containing the threat of piracy and ensuring that broadband technology serves our economic interests instead of destroying our business,” he adds.
