Next year will be the 10th anniversary of South Africa’s first democratic elections, and the film community is gearing up by spotlighting the country at major film festivals around the world.
The National Film and Video Foundation and the Department of Arts and Culture have already secured special focuses on South Africa at the Cannes, Toronto and Rotterdam fests as part of its “10 Years of Our Freedom” celebrations.
NFVF chief executive Eddie Mbalo said the festival focuses were part of the strategy to up growth in the local film sector by developing relations with international markets.
The NFVF will be an official partner of Rotterdam’s Cinemart co-production forum and Toronto’s similar Match Club. Key members of the industry are invited to join these forums, which facilitate meetings between members.
