‘Fortune’ calls on Foley

Tale folows 5 L.A. cops who steal a winning lottery ticket

Helmer James Foley has signed on to direct “Fortune’s Fools” for Working Title and Universal.

Lion’s Gate unspools Foley’s “Confidence,” starring Dustin Hoffman and Ed Norton, today.

“Fools” follows five L.A. cops who steal a winning lottery ticket worth $36 million from a drug dealer.

The original script was penned by Erik Bergquist, who shared credit on U’s “The Fast and the Furious.” Foley has brought in “Confidence” scribe Doug Jung to rewrite the script.

Pic was set up at Working Title by producer Michael London.

Last summer, “Miami Vice” and “Heat” director Michael Mann was in talks to helm the pic. (Daily Variety, July 24, 2002)

Nearly seven years ago, pic was set up at Fox 2000 where, it was once considered as a vehicle for Ben Affleck and Ed Harris.
