Focus Features has acquired the spec script “Tangled Up in Blue” by tyro scribe Lou Berney for low- against mid-six figures.
Storyline centers on a tough female bank robber from the big city. When a hit is put out on her, she is forced to hide out in an idyllic small town, but the town’s effect on her is in some ways more dramatic than the death threat.
Richard Rudolph and Scott Fey of Collision Entertainment will produce with Cora Olson co-producing. Focus VP Khali Small will oversee the pic’s development for the studio.
The Oklahoma-based Berney was repped in the deal by Origin Talent Agency and managers at Energy Entertainment.
Spec deal comes on the heels of a just-inked client-sharing arrangement between Origin and Energy, a pact whose organizing principle is the nurturing of up-and-coming tyro writers like Berney.
