Jim Stern’s Endgame Entertainment has come aboard to co-finance Artisan’s “Compleat Female Stage Beauty” and the New Line-Senator pic “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”
Both pix will be co-funded via the Endgame Fund, the company’s financing source that will provide coin for 15 movies over the next three years.
“Beauty,” scripted by Jeffrey Hatcher from his play, stars Billy Crudup as Edward Kynaston, renowned for his ability to play female roles on the English stage at a time when men played all the parts. That changed in 1661, and the romantic drama revolves around Kynaston’s attempt to reinvent himself as a man. At the same time, the young woman who had been his dresser (Claire Danes) is fast becoming a star playing the parts he once owned.
Artisan also will distribute pic, which was developed by Tribeca Prods. Michael Kuhn’s Qwerty Films is also co-financing.
“Castle” is being directed by Danny Leiner and penned by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. Greg Shapiro produces with Senator’s Nathan Kahane with Senator’s Carsten Lorenz serving as exec producer. Pic is story of two overachieving kids from immigrant families who break away from their parents’ high expectations for one very eventful night.
