Edelman, Griffin score kudos

BMI recognizes music greats

Composer Randy Edelman will receive the 2003 Richard Kirk Award for career achievement at the BMI Film & TV Awards May 14 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Merv Griffin will receive the BMI President’s Award at the ceremonies.

Edelman’s credits include the scores to “The Last of the Mohicans,” “Gods and Generals,” “While You Were Sleeping,” “The Mask, ” “Anaconda,” “Billy Madison” and “XXX.” He wrote the hit “Weekend in New England” and has worked with groups such as the Carpenters and the Mothers of Invention. He won an Emmy Award for his closing theme for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

Griffin created the scores and themes for gameshows “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” and recently signed a deal with ABC Family to bring back his hit series “Dance Fever.”

BMI is an American performing rights organization that represents about 300,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers in all genres of music.
