Anant Singh’s Distant Horizon has acquired the remake rights to Hong Kong director Wong Jing’s “Color of the Truth” from production company China Star Entertainment.
The stylish cop thriller focuses on the moral dilemma of a young police officer caught between the truth and the desire to avenge his father’s death. Original pic stars Anthony Wong, Jordan Chan, Lau Ching Wan, Patrick Tse and Francis Ng.
” ‘Color of the Truth’ is an action-packed cop thriller which is ideal for a remake,” said Singh. “The film was the top box office earner in Hong Kong and, as a result, grabbed the attention of Hollywood producers who have shown a keen interest in the film. We are looking at casting some big Hollywood names in the remake.”
Deal marks the continuation of a longstanding relationship between Distant Horizon and China Star Entertainment on pics including the Jet Li starrer “Black Mask” and “Zu Warriors,” starring Zhang Ziyi.
Distant Horizon has also acquired the remake rights to “The Ring” helmer Hideo Nakata’s “Don’t Look Up” and Yasuomi Umetsu’s anime cult classic “Kite,” on which they are collaborating with Rob Cohen.
