Dimension Films and Todd Phillips’ Gentlemen Pictures have acquired the script “Range Rats,” a comedy about pint-sized duffers and their cranky golf coach.
Scripted by tyro scribes Mikael Romano and Todd Morris, “Range Rats” lands squarely on the “Bad News Bears” fairway. An ex-con finds himself coaching a ragtag team of kids bent on winning the Texas Junior Golf Championship. Phillips will produce, and Nicholas Osborne and Trevor Engelson of Underground Films will exec produce.
Dimension senior veep Jeremy Kramer will caddy the comedy with co-prexys Andrew Rona and Brad Weston, along with Gentlemen Pictures veep Scott Budnick.
Since setting up an overall Dimension deal to become its comedy catalyst, “Old School” director Phillips has acquired eight projects. They include a remake of “School for Scoundrels” that Phillips is writing with scripting partner Scot Armstrong and plans to direct; “O Sister Where Art Thou,” a fact-based pic based on Skip Hollandsworth’s Texas Monthly article; and “Goodbye to Romance,” based on a magazine article penned by “Troy” scribe David Benioff. WMA made the deal.
