Diggs in to play ‘Drum’

Pic based on real life of reporter who fought against apartheid

Taye Diggs will topline the Armada Pictures feature “Drum,” which goes before cameras Nov. 7 in South Africa under the direction of Zola Maseko.

Jason Filardi (“Bringing Down the House”) penned the project, which is based on the real life accounts of Drum magazine writer Henry Nxumalo, who risked his life exposing the brutal nature of the South African apartheid regime.

Armada CEO Chris Sievernich and Matt Milich are producing the pic, along with Johannesburg based Rudolf Wichmann and Dumisani Dlamini. Executive producing the project are Filardi and Munich-based VIP Medienfonds’ Andreas Schmid and Andreas Grosch.

“Drum” is the second film this year to go into production under the Armada banner; the first, thriller “One Point O,” is in post-production.

Diggs, who earlier this month was handed an excellence in filmmaking award at the 39th Chicago Film Festival, will next be seen in the GreeneStreet production “Slow Burn.”
