Five filmmakers were named finalists for this year’s Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival.
Helmers seeking a deal to direct a million-dollar feature through Universal are Victor Buhler and Tanja Mairitsch of Los Angeles, Andrew Mudge and Stephen Marro of New York and Paul Cotter of Chicago.
They will spend the summer cloistered in a Los Angeles mansion and on the U lot, buffing up feature projects they will present to a panel of judges during a final event at the Toronto Film Festival in September. Winner will receive the feature directing deal, which is provided through Universal and Hypnotic, the production company that runs the Chrysler event.
The five survived a competition earlier this month in New York, where they had 10 days to cast, shoot, edit and present a short film that incorporated two of the car company’s vehicles.
