LONDON — Catherine Zeta-Jones has teamed up with Pathe Pictures and Starboard Entertainment to develop a movie based on the stage play “Getting and Spending” by Gotham-based writer Michael J. Chepiga.
“Getting” is a romantic comedy about a woman who makes her money playing the stock market, and then gives it away to charity. When she’s accused of insider trading, she sets out to hire a top lawyer who has just retired to a monastery.
The project will be produced by David A. Jones of Zeta-Jones’ shingle Milkwood, along with Starboard partners Barry Quart and Peter Antonijevic. Broadway producer Marty Markinson, who staged the original play at his Helen Hayes Theater, will serve as exec producer.
Francois Ivernel, managing director of Pathe U.K., said: “We are confident that Michael’s stage play will be the foundation of a wonderfully clever romantic comedy, which will provide a perfect role for Catherine Zeta-Jones.”
