Benedict Carver has been promoted to senior VP acquisitions and co-productions for Screen Gems.Carver oversees worldwide acquisitions for both Screen Gems and the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. He also initiates co-financing projects with independent film companies.
Announcement was made by Screen Gems prexy Clint Culpepper, who described Carver as “exceptionally aggressive, with a keen eye for commercial fare.”
Carver was involved in the acquisition and oversight of such productions as “Resident Evil.” He is working on the sequel “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Underworld” starring Kate Beckinsale. He also oversees TriStar’s “The Medallion” starring Jackie Chan, an acquisition that is now in post.
For Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, Carver was involved in the acquisition of rights for films such as “Memento,” “Enigma,” “Tortilla Soup” and “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.”
Carver joined CTMPG three years ago as VP. Before that, he was a reporter at Daily Variety and served as features editor and West Coast editor for Screen Intl.
