Peter Care will direct the remake of “Billy Jack” for Intermedia Films.
The original pic, released in 1971, was the story of a former Green Beret and karate expert who traveled America protecting the helpless by beating up bad guys. John Fusco (“Hildalgo”) is writing the script.
Frank Laughlin produces the pic, with Tom Laughlin, Delores Taylor, Moritz Borman and Basil Iwanyk as exec producers.
Care made his feature-directing bow last year with “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys,” which starred Kieran Culkin and was produced by Jodie Foster.
Tom Laughlin toplined, wrote, directed and produced the original pic. He also overcame the best efforts of Warner Bros. Pictures to dump the pic in its theatrical release. It went on to become one of the most profitable indie films ever.
