‘Baghdad’ remembered at doc fest

World Brief

German/Swiss production “Forget Baghdad,” by Iraqi director Samir Naqqash, won the top prize at the Ismailia Intl. Docu Festival last week. Doc concerns exiled Iraqi Communist Jews.

Fest opened with Italian director Pippo Delbano’s “Guerra War” and closed with Oliver Stone’s doc “Personae Non Grata,” both on the Israeli-Palestinian struggle. Stone’s film, distribbed in Middle East by Lebanese Front Row Filmed Entertainment, was picked up by Al Akbar Sat TV.

“This festival was quality-proofed with 75 competition and 80 out-of-competition films selected from 550 entries,” jury prexy Hermann Barth said. “There were many surprisingly good films from the region that could get quality distribution in Europe.”
