Artisan Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to Quadrant Entertainment’s romantic comedy “Dummy,” which stars best actor Oscar winner Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”).
Artisan says it plans to release the film in September.
Led by Brody and co-starring Milla Jovovich and Illeana Douglas, pic is a romantic comedy set in suburbia. “Dummy” follows the socially retarded Steven (Brody) who quits his job to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a ventriloquist.
Virtually ignored at home by his glue-huffing father (Ron Leibman), his sandwich-pushing mother (Jessica Walter), and his embittered wedding planner sister (Douglas), Steven begins to find his own voice with the help of his wise-cracking dummy and starts to woo a woman.
The film was produced by Richard Temtchine and Bob Fagan, and was directed and written by Greg Pritikin.
Brody is repped by CAA. His next roles are in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “The Woods” for Disney, and the upcoming Par Classics release “The Singing Detective” opposite Robert Downey Jr.
