Artificial Eye gets ‘Happiness’

World Brief

U.K. indie specialist distrib Artificial Eye has picked up Mauritanian helmer Abderrahmane Sissako’s “Waiting for Happiness” (Heremakono), which screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes and won the Grand Prix at Pan-African film fest Fespaco in Burkina Faso last month.

Artificial Eye hopes to bow the semi-autobiographical tale of a man in Mauritania about to leave for Europe.

The distrib has high hopes for the pic after the limited-release box office success of ICA Projects’ “Abouna.”
