Allen to do ‘Anything’ for Venice

Helmer to appear at fest for first time on its 60th anni

Director Woody Allen is expected to make his first appearance at the Venice Film Festival to attend the world premiere of his DreamWorks comedy “Anything Else” Aug. 27.

Allen has had 10 of his pics play at the Venice fest since 1982. The 60th anni of the event will mark the first time he’s attended. “Anything Else,” which Allen wrote and directed, opens the fest, which runs through Sept. 6.

“I’m looking forward to going to the festival,” Allen said. “I’ve never been to Venice at festival time, and the city has been so generous and supportive to me and I love it so much that it will be a great honor.”

DreamWorks bows “Anything Else,” starring Danny DeVito, Jason Biggs, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Fallon and Stockard Channing in the U.S. on Sept. 16, as the final release of a three-pic deal with Allen.

“I’m delighted that Woody Allen made his film available for Venice, and it is a great pleasure for all of us to welcome him here,” said festival director Moritz de Hadeln.
