‘Air’ lands at D’Works

Doubleday novel about HR exec out for flyer miles

Sheldon Turner’s love for Walter Kirn’s “Up in the Air” has paid off handsomely — his spec adaptation of the novel has landed at the DreamWorks-based Montecito Picture Co. in a deal valued at $250,000 against $600,000.

The Doubleday novel was previously set up at Fox 2000 Pictures with helmer Jay Roach. Satirical tome follows a rootless human resources exec who loathes his job but clings to it to reach his ultimate goal — accruing one million frequent flyer miles.

Most recently, Turner was hired as the scribe and exec producer of the Vivica A. Fox-toplined public defender drama, “Dakota Diggs,” set up at USA Network.

In January, he sold his script “Overtime” to Warner Bros. Pictures. It’s a gridiron drama that has Ashton Kutcher and Shawn Levy (“Just Married”) attached to topline and helm, respectively.

Montecito’s Jacqueline Josephson brought the “Air” project into the company, which is also currently producing comedy “A Fistful of Euros,” which DreamWorks will distrib.
