Davies to star, Kirby to play scribe Bugliosi in telepic
Feature thesps Jeremy Davies and Bruno Kirby are set to topline CBS’ upcoming remake of “Helter Skelter.”
Davies has signed to star as Charles Manson, while Kirby will play scribe Vincent Bugliosi in the three-hour telepic, which was greenlit over the summer and will offer a new take on the Manson Family murders.
John Gray (“Martin & Lewis”) wrote the script and is directing; Mark Wolper is exec producing via the Wolper Organization and Warner Bros. TV.
Former prosecutor Bugliosi wrote the bestselling book about the Manson case; it was turned into a 1976 CBS telepic. New version will focus more on Manson than the original did.
In addition to his role in the upcoming Nicole Kidman starrer “Dogville,” Davies’ recent credits include “Solaris,” “Secretary” and “CQ.” IFA-repped thesp also appeared in “Saving Private Ryan” and first made a feature splash in the indie cult fave “Spanking the Money.”
Kirby, who’s repped by Paradigm, appeared in the 2000 CBS telepic “American Tragedy.” His feature credits include “Donnie Brasco,” “City Slickers” and “When Harry Met Sally.”
