The Sundance Institute Documentary Fund has chosen 14 docus from filmmakers in U.S., Canada, Mexico, England and France as recipients of the fund’s biannual grants.
This year’s chosen features address an array of timely issues (as per the criteria of the prize), such as pre-natal health care among the underprivileged in Chicago, post-9/11 trauma, the reign of Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, post-Cold War Nicaragua and Shakespeare plays performed in Kentucky prisons.
“The recipients of this fall’s grant cycle show an uncanny ability to get to the heart of crucial issues and events, which are not being covered by the mainstream media,” said fund director Diane Weyermann.
International docus were eligible in three categories of development — work in progress, developmental and supplemental — which also determined the denomination of the monetary prize.
