Indies covet cash kudos

One of the fest circuit’s most generous prize-givers, HIFF’s commitment to supporting American independent filmmaking through cash prizes and recognition includes the following awards, among others. Ceremony takes place Saturday evening at Guild Hall:

Golden Starfish Award for narrative feature: $180,000-plus in goods and services

Golden Starfish award for career achievement in acting (honoree: Joan Allen)

Spike TV documentary award: $10,000 (combo cash and in-kind)

Stella Artois short film award: $5,000 cash

Abraham award for Films of Conflict & Resolution: $5,000 cash

Brizzolara Family inspirational film award: $5,000 cash

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation feature film prize for subject involving science and technology: $25,000 cash

Kodak cinematography award: $6,000 in services

Zicherman Family Foundation award for screenwriting: $5,000 cash

Artbridge Association, Inc. award for original score: $3,500 cash

Six student filmmaker awards: $1,000 each
