Warner Bros.’ action sequel rung up $42.5 million on Thursday in the best opening-day perf ever. Figure includes several million dollars in previous night grosses from 10 p.m. Wednesday preview shows, which were lumped into the Thursday tally in keeping with industry practice.
“Reloaded” thus surpasses the opening-day perf of Sony’s “Spider-Man,” which bowed on a Friday with $39.4 million. So far, “Spidey” still holds the single-day B.O. record, after collecting $43.6 million over its first Saturday, the comix actioner’s second day in release.
“Reloaded” — playing in a whopping 3,603 theaters — is expected to gross $125 million-$150 million over its first four days. “Spider-Man” holds the record for best opening weekend with a three-day tally of $114.8 million.
