Pic nabs best film, thesp kudos

LONDON — Stephen Frears’ arresting look at the plight of illegal immigrants in London, “Dirty Pretty Things,” was the big winner at the 30th Evening Standard British Film Awards Feb. 2 at the Savoy hotel. Pic scooped up the best film award and actor prize for rising star Chiwetal Ejiofor,who was especially delighted after failing to receive a BAFTA nomination. The ceremony, which honors Brit talent, drew thesps Roger Moore, Hugh Grant, Dougray Scott, John Hurt and Gillian Anderson as well as helmers Mike Leigh and Terry Gilliam.
